Real Aussie Kids rider Sam Spokes was a key player in the NSW Team in the Team Pursuit Championship at the Junior Ausrtalian Track Championships at Dunc Gray Velodrome, Sydney,  yesterday.  The Team qualified as fastest team with a time of 3min 29 sec, narrowly beating South Australia's time by .01 of a second.  They then went on to improve their time by a second in the final and convincingly claimed the Gold Medal.

RAK Rider, Sam Spokes,  will be flying the NSW flag at the upcoming Junior National Track Championships in three weeks at the DuncGray Velodrome in Sydney. Spokes put in an impressive performance at the NSW State Championships last week when he won the U17 Scratch Race Championship and won a Silver Medal in the Individual Pursuit Championship. Fellow RAK rider Lachlan Morton came 5th in each of the events.

Golden girl, Sarah Kent has received yet another award,  being named  Western Australian Female "Track Cyclist of the Year" for the second year in a row. The award is based on an accumulated points system of number of races, wins and places.

Young RAK riders, Lachlan Morton and Sam Spokes have been awarded Development Scholarships with the NSW Institute of Sport. The two riders were presented with their clothing and accessories at local media conferences in their home towns of Port Macquarie and Tamworth, and given a VIP tour of the NSWIS facilities, last week in Sydney.  As Scholarship Athletes, the pair will have access to local Gym facilities as well as physiotherapy, nutrition, sports psychology & medicine, bio mechanics and physiological testing.  “This is well deserved recognition of the two riders by the state body”, said coach Graham Seers, “they both have an exciting future ahead in the sport”.   See their interviews on

Two RAK/Drapac Porsche riders Sarah Kent and Tom Palmer have earned the honour of representing Australia for the second time at the Junior World Track Cycling Championships in South Africa in July.  The Junior Track Cycling Team was announced last week by Cycling Australia and boasts an impressive line up. There were lots of smiles around the RAK camp after the Australian National Track Championships last week.  Sarah Kent was celebrating more than just her 18^th birthday with a Gold medal in the U19 Women’s Individual Pursuit, earning her automatic selection in the Australian Junior Track Team with a scintillating time of 2:25.91. She then backed it up with another gold medal in the Open Women’s Team Pursuit, and a Silver medal in the U19 Women’s Points Race. 

A lot of nervous energy will be spent in the next few days as four of RAK's talented Track riders gear up for the Australian U 19 Track Championships, at the Dunc Gray Velodrome, Sydney from the 5th to the 10th February.  Tom Palmer, Camille Pallett, Sarah Kent and Lauren Kitchen and their respective coaches have all been putting in enormous effort into their  training schedules in preparation for the event.  These riders not only are seeking positions on the podium at the Championships, they are also seeking selection in the Australian Junior Track Team to contest the Junior World Track Championships in South Africa in July.  We wish them all the best!!< ...

Opportunities may be available under the RAK “Sponsored Rider” program for U19 and second year U17 riders to attend the RAK Colorado Camp from 13th June to 23rd July.  These riders will contribute financially to their expenses and will only be accepted after they demonstrate their ability to endure the rigors of the training regime and display the maturity required to live in a team environment.
