There were plenty of Golden smiles for the Real Aussie Kids Cycling Team after they competed in the Fort Collins Cycling Festival in Colorado on the weekend. In their most successful racing event to date, the bounty included a Pro Category Victory, two Colorado State Championship titles and a one –two finish in the Men’s Category 3 Hillclimb, not to mention a th ...

Coach Seers, who followed the breakaway, said he was worried near the top of the climb when the young protégé looked like he might have done too much..... “however when we crossed the top and saw that he had made the jump and established a strong break...I was frankly amazed” Lach showed remarkable maturity for a sixteen year old racing at this level and I am sure today is an indication of what we will see from this remarkable young rider in the future. He is a great example of what junior development is all about. Seers went on to say.... “The US provides young riders an excellent opportunity to continue their development by racing at the top level”. “The experience is invaluable to their development”. On US cycling Seers said.. “The professionalism of the Fort Collins event is another example of how strong cycling in the US is developing. I think you will see more Aussie riders and hopefully senior teams head here for the great racing.
The race wraps up an impressive three weekends that has s

The Real Aussie kids Team training in Colorado has wasted no time in making their presence felt. For the second weekend in a row the junior riders have made the podium in senior races in The US. Competing in Glenwood Springs in Colorado the RAK team scored two victories and three seconds against Senior and Professional US riders who where left scratching their heads as the RAK kids started their fifth summer in the US. Nestled in the western foothills of the Rockies and situated on the banks of the Colorado River the landscape provided tough mountainous roads on Saturday and a beautiful shady down town setting for the Sunday Criteriums.

Lachlan Morton riding for the Real Aussie Kids Junior team at the Boulder Mike Horgan Hill Climb on Sunday, wasted no time in showing his form.
The 16year old junior crossed to an early break on the lower slopes of the climb on a windy early start to Sunday’s grueling ride. The young Aussie teamed with Nico Toutenhoofd to be thirty seconds clear at the turn onto Sugarloaf Road and into the 13%grade. The two riders worked together over the 4.5 mile climb, with a chase group closing at the mid point of the climb only to slip back to 50 seconds as the last of the uphill tar was reached at Sugarloaf. Health Net rider, Matt Cooke however in a great ride, crossed to Morton and Toutenhoofd as they started the climbs on the 7mile gravel st ...

The honour of representing our country also brings responsibilities and sacrifices for the families of the four RAK members selected in the 2008 Australian team. Each member making the Aussie team is responsible for covering the $5,000 plus levy as well as other associated expenses getting to and from the training camps and lead up competitions. For some of these athletes it is the second year running their families have had to meet these expenses.
Real Aussie Kids Cycling and Drapac Porsche Development Program are proud to have been able to support these riders to the tune of $1,000 per rider. The balance is being raised by the individuals through personal sponsorships and fundraising events.

Port Macquarie rider Matt Connelly was selected last week as the fourth Real Aussie Kids team member to represent Australia in 2008.
Matt was announced in the Australian U19 Development team to race in Montreal, Canada in August this year. The announcement follows the earlier confirmation that Lauren Kitchen, Sarah Kent and Tom Palmer would represent Australia at the junior world Championships in Cape Town, South Africa in August.
Connelly, who only started riding two years ago, showed his potential as a first year U19 rider in the qualifying races for the Aussie Team in Tasmania where he finished 10th outright and with a 4th position in the Australian Championships at Murwillumbah two weeks later he signalled ...
